The
Integrated Operating Theatre of the Future!
Integrated operating theatres are now being developed, in which all
operating room equipment i.e. endoscopic camera equipment, robotics,
operating tables, room lighting, surgical lights, digital documentation,
data storage and teleconferencing technology can all be centrally
controlled, either outside or within the sterile area as desired.
Integrated operating theatre design allows for equipment (e.g. ceiling
mounted suspension systems) to provide increased efficiencies and
ergonomics in the operating room. Endoscopic video systems are now
interlinked with environmental room control where everything can be
controlled via touch screen or voice activation in the sterile field
or nurses work station at the touch of a button. Surgeons can now
be in control of the camera, light source, insufflation, room lighting,
room temperature and video conferencing. Communication from the sterile
field to the entire world is at Surgeons finger tips.
